Deck the halls with boughs of holly,Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la, ’Tis the season to be jolly, Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la, Don we now our gay apparel, Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la. Troll the ancient Yule-tide carol, Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la.
For all of us at The Yummy Pub Co, Christmas started back in july with a blank sheet of paper and some good and bad ideas. The first idea to be considered bad was getting Jason to dress up as Santa and come down the chimney at The Grove Ferry every night. Apart from being dangerous, we also felt that the pub might be a bit cold in December if we can’t light the fire.
Months later and after a lot of thought as to what people want, the menu and how we can be a bit different we launched an exciting advent calendar for all to enjoy.
First up we have the not too serious wine tasting evening matching a range of fantastic wines to our Christmas menu. We promise this wont be a ‘lardy dar’ wine tasting, it’s going to be an enlightening evening with a few tales along the way from our team of (I use the word liberally) Connoisseurs! It’s all booked into the Grove Ferry for the 1st December and the 14th for The Wiremill.
My personal favourite idea is a night of candle lit carols. We plan to light our terraces with tea lights and have the local church choir booked at The Wiremill and Chislet Primary school singing at The Grove Ferry both on Sunday 11th December at 8pm. The pub teams are already practising their own vocal chords and will providing song sheets for all our guests to sing along. Mulled wine, mince pies and hot chocolates are going to be made available at the bar. I really think this is a proper traditional Christmas event and am bringing the whole family down. Any donations made by guests will be going to the church or primary school respectively.
After last years mixed successes with comedy (the not so successful being unfunny comedians, yes they do exist) we decided to use some tried and tested comedy compares and do a Christmas Comedy Quiz Night (Wiremill Weds 7th Dec, Grove Ferry Thurs 8th Dec) The evening promises to be funny, interactive, testing and tasty all at once. Prizes will go to the best team and I am sure we will be thinking up some wooden spoon prizes along the way. After all we are a pub and what is a pub without a pub quiz?
And in-between all of these little happenings we’ve got a sprinkling of local musicians booked in every Friday In December, Christmas eve and a big bash on NYE at both our country pubs!
Now with all the organising done all we need to do is pick the best Xmas trees, make sure no tinsel sneaks it’s way into the pubs and start filling those stockings with pressies.
Perfect!!!!

He got a little bit embarrassed and insisted on putting the full regalia on! Thanks for the message, we promise to keep up the good blogs and could even try to convince Tim that a Grove Ferry Tattoo is a good idea!
